The project was created for Alibaba Cloud, the official cloud service partner of the 2024 Paris Olympics, presenting the on-site visual scene “Honor History, Create History” for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Upon entering the artistic space, one finds oneself surrounded by abstracted imagery of domed arches and square colonnades. The spatial design echoed the architectural style of ancient Greek temples and the structure of France’s famous Arc de Triomphe, presenting contemporary visual art through classical beauty: passing through the digital portals, this is the triumphant return of Marianne and Athena.
In this project, I am mainly responsible for parts from the idea to the refinement before implementation, including creative ideas, Installation Design, Graphic Design, Illustrating, and Modeling.
The design abstractly and compositionally referenced the domed arches and square colonnades, while simultaneously resonating with the architectural style of ancient Greek temples and the structure of the Arc de Triomphe. By using modern and symbolic elements, the classical architectural language was transformed into a narrative language, translating the artistic work’s classical and modern reflections.
The patterns on the columns were inspired by the famous French historical monument in Paris, the “Colonne de Juillet”, which commemorates the July Revolution and symbolizes the spirit of freedom of the French nation.
The refined and abstract composition of black-and-white and linear elements paid homage to classical decorative elements while also resonating with the thematic style of the artwork.
Additionally, the simplicity and binary form of the construction alluded to the computational aesthetic of Alibaba Cloud’s “Tongyi Wanxiang” intelligent AI, creating a perfect fusion of classical beauty and futuristic beauty within the scene.
