This project involved event space planning and furniture design for Canal Hub 1958 in Wuxi. Utilizing repurposed materials, a functional, accessible, and minimalist book exhibition space was created. The space featured introductions to publishing brands, interviews with brand leaders, and displays of outstanding publications. Through adaptable interfaces, the interplay of text and art was further extended, shaping a spatial environment that fosters a literary and independent cultural ecosystem.

In this project, I am mainly responsible for parts of creative ideas, spatial design, furniture design and modeling.

Designed to fit the stepped terrain of the venue, the exhibition structures adopt a simple and self-constructive framework, enabling versatile configurations. Using plain, eco-friendly materials as the foundation, the design aligns with sustainability values and the localized climate adaptation concept. Beginning with the basic unit of a rectangular box, platforms were created to accommodate books and readers. Vertical panels were incorporated to reflect the branding of this exhibition, culminating in a refined yet dynamic display space.

The spatial design integrates exhibition and event spaces into a fluid interface, constructing a synesthetic connection between planar and three-dimensional elements within the stepped layout. Under the guidance of a core circulation flow, the scenes resemble ascending islands layered along the staircase. All furniture in these scenes is reusable and adaptable to diverse settings, enhancing economic and environmental benefits. Over time, the design reduces event costs and provides flexibility for frequent usage, enabling more events to be organized under economically manageable conditions.
