This project is designed for Nanjing Yue City (Yuecheng Tiandi). Drawing inspiration from the iconic wutong trees of Nanjing, the design responds to the site’s historic Ming-dynasty pavilion, “Laixun Pavilion.” The entrance space is conceived as a small pavilion within a forest. Through the interplay of positive and negative forms, the grove of wutong trees and the forest pavilion merge into a unified entity. This modern, refined composition creates a distinctive “Pavilion within Wutong Trees,” evoking the unique spirit of Nanjing.

In this project, I designed the three main spatial installations, from the idea to the refinement before implementation, including Creative Ideas, Installation Design, and Modeling.

Nanjing is the city with the most extensive planting of wutong trees in China, forming its most beautiful scenic landscape. The design transforms the image of the wutong trees into a form composed of virtual and solid elements, introducing the elegance of Nanjing through the dappled light and shadow of the trees.

A contemporary approach redefines the boundaries of the traditional pavilion. Through fragmented assemblies and spatial dislocations of contours, an illusory pavilion space emerges, perceptible only from specific vantage points.
